Syracuse Chiefs play-by-play man Kevin Brown is leaving the Syracuse Chiefs for a national TV opportunity effective July 30th. Eric Gallanty will take over for the remainder of the season. See press release from the Chiefs below:
The Syracuse Chiefs announce that play-by-play broadcaster Kevin Brown will call his final game for the team on Sunday, July 30th. Brown, in his third full year as Voice of the Chiefs, has accepted a national broadcasting position. Third-year broadcaster Eric Gallanty will take over the lead play-by-play role for the remainder of the season.
“This is the right time for me to turn to a new chapter in my career”, said Brown. “It’s an opportunity I never would have received without the support of so many people throughout my years with the Chiefs. I’ve met so many wonderful people inside and outside of the organization who have made a profound impact on my life. Now, I’m excited to move forward and turn the booth over to Eric Gallanty, who is as high-quality a young man as I know.”
Brown has worked for the Chiefs since before his graduation from Syracuse University in 2011. He teamed with Jason Benetti for four years of broadcasts, succeeding Benetti in August of 2014. Over the past three seasons, Brown and Gallanty have teamed up as radio play-by-play partners.
“I am ecstatic for Kevin,” said Chiefs general manager Jason Smorol. “Sometimes you hope a day like this comes; with Kevin, as with Jason Benetti before him, we knew a day like this would come. Kevin has too much talent not to be recognized and scooped up. The Chiefs’ list of former broadcasters is like no other in all of minor league sport. It is unparalleled, and we can now add Kevin Brown’s name to that list.”
Last season, Brown began working for ESPN as a TV play-by-play broadcaster on the network’s high-school football package. He has also called college football, basketball, hockey and lacrosse for the ESPN family of networks. This May, Brown filled in on a pair of games for the Washington Nationals Radio Network. Before his work at ESPN, he broadcast myriad high-school and college sports for Time Warner Cable SportsChannel in Syracuse.
Brown’s final game as Voice of the Chiefs will be on Sunday, July 30th, when the Chiefs play the Gwinnett Braves at 1:05 p.m. on Wall of Fame Day.
