Bud Poliquin

Bud has been a columnist for The Post-Standard since 1984 and has been named among the nation’s Top 10 columnists in seven different years by the Associated Press Sports Editors group. Always colorful and opinionated, he has traveled both the country and the world, covering sporting events in 44 of the 50 states (including Alaska and Hawaii) and in 10 countries. He has staffed 26 Final Fours, 14 Super Bowls, seven World Series and two Olympiads in addition to other major news and sporting events. Bud has interviewed renowned sports figures from A (Ali, Muhammad) to very nearly Z (Yaztrzemski, Carl). Prior to coming to Syracuse, he was a member of the San Diego Tribune’s reporting team that won a Pulitzer Prize for its coverage of the crash of a PSA jetliner. He has authored two books (“Purely Poliquin’’ and “Tales From the Syracuse Hardwood’) and writes a blog that appears virtually every day on syracuse.com. His expert views on Syracuse University football and basketball are staples of The Post-Standard’s daily coverage.
